56 courses in 56 days & one more life lived

I didn’t quite make this dream work out, which is probably why it’s taken me some time to gather the courage to reflect on this 12-month golf journey.

By May, reality hit hard: being a golfer, drone pilot, marketer, and nomad wasn’t a match to keep things afloat. In short: I didn’t land enough clients, which meant facing reality and going back to regular work.

But let’s be real, the adventure was worth every second. By the end of my two-month trip, I’d hit up 56 courses in 56 days. I got permission to play & fly at eleven courses; however, thanks to wind conditions, I only managed nine. Did I reach my goal? No. Did I go all the way? Hell yes. In April I even applied for jobs at golf club receptions for the 2024 season. But come June, it was back to sales. Not to mention, this summer didn’t exactly bring ideal conditions - at least not in Germany.

All in all, I spent one year trying to showcase golf from a different angle. It didn’t turn into a living, but that’s okay.

Does it sting? Of course. Any regrets? Not even a little. In fact, I probably played more golf in that one year than the average golfer does from the time he picks up a club to when the real golf life begins for most golfers: retirement. And when I say “played”, I mean trained. I didn’t have time to enter tournaments and work on my handicap. But honestly, that’s not what golf is about for me. It’s not all about the handicap chatter or loading up your bag from day one. It’s about adding one skill at a time while improving the total skill set along the way. And of course to enjoy every second of it.

In the end, and after already three active years in golf, I finally bought my first club - a driver, obviously. Haven’t had much time to practice with it yet, though.

Long story short, I’ve got one more story to tell, and what a story it is.

Best,

Lucas
